前置詞の後の動名詞

A2 英検準2級 初中級

preposition + gerund (-ing form)

説明

Use the -ing form after a preposition.

In "I am good at cooking," "at" is the preposition, and "cooking" is the gerund. The gerund works like a noun here, so the phrase means "good in the skill of cooking." Japanese often uses "〜すること" or a noun form after a particle, so this pattern feels similar. Do not use a bare verb after the preposition. Say "good at cooking," not "good at cook."

例文

  • I am good at cooking. 私は料理が得意です。
  • Thank you for helping me. 手伝ってくれてありがとう。
  • Are you interested in learning English? 英語を学ぶことに興味がありますか。
  • We talked about moving to Osaka. 私たちは大阪に引っ越すことについて話しました。
  • He left without saying goodbye. 彼はさよならも言わずに帰りました。
  • I am not used to getting up early. 私は早起きにまだ慣れていません。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often put the base verb after a preposition.

Wrong: "I'm interested in to learn English."

Right: "I'm interested in learning English."

This also happens in phrases like "looking forward to seeing you," because "to" is part of the preposition phrase, not an infinitive marker.
