名詞の後の前置詞

A2 英検準2級 初中級

noun + preposition + noun

説明

Use a preposition after some nouns to show what the noun is connected to.

For example, "What is the reason for the delay?" Here "reason" is the noun, "for" links it to "the delay," and the whole phrase means the cause of the delay. Japanese often uses "の" or another particle for this job, but English needs the right preposition after the noun. Many noun-preposition pairs are fixed, so learn them as one chunk. Common pairs are "reason for," "interest in," "answer to," and "photo of."

例文

  • This is a photo of my family. これは私の家族の写真です。
  • The price of coffee is rising. コーヒーの値段が上がっています。
  • What is the reason for the delay? 遅れの理由は何ですか。
  • I have no problem with your plan. あなたの計画に問題はありません。
  • She has a strong interest in music. 彼女は音楽に強い関心があります。
  • We need the answer to this question. 私たちはこの質問への答えが必要です。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often use "of" for every noun link because Japanese uses "の" in many places.

Wrong: "the reason of the delay."

Right: "the reason for the delay."

Another common error is using the wrong fixed pair, like "the answer of your question" instead of "the answer to your question."
