スケジュールを表す現在形

A2 英検準2級 初中級

subject + present simple verb

説明

Use the present simple for fixed schedules, like train times, class times, and opening hours.

For example, "The train leaves at 8:00." Here, "The train" is the subject, "leaves" is the present simple verb, and "at 8:00" gives the time. We use this form even though the train has not left yet, because the timetable is fixed. In Japanese, the same idea is often said with a plain future meaning, so learners may want to use "will" or "is leaving".

For questions, use "does", as in "What time does the movie begin?", and keep the main verb in the base form.

例文

  • The train leaves at 8:00. 電車は8時に出発します。
  • Our class starts at 9:00. 私たちの授業は9時に始まります。
  • What time does the movie begin? その映画は何時に始まりますか。
  • The shop opens at 10, but it closes at 6. その店は10時に開きますが、6時に閉まります。
  • I finish work at 5 on weekdays. 平日は5時に仕事が終わります。
  • The museum doesn't open on Mondays. その博物館は月曜日に開館しません。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often say "The train leave at 8:00" or "The train is leaving at 8:00" for a fixed timetable. The right form is "The train leaves at 8:00." Remember the "-s" in the present simple with he, she, and it.
