並行的な変化と関係性を用いた「多ければ多いほど…」構造の使用

B1 英検2級 中級

the more + clause, the more + clause

説明

Use this pattern when two things change together. "The more" means "to a greater degree" or "as it increases."

For example, "The more I read, the more I learn." In the first half, "The more I read" means that my reading increases. In the second half, "the more I learn" shows that my learning also increases. Japanese often says "読めば読むほど、学べる" with one fixed pattern, but English keeps both parts visible.

例文

  • The more I read, the more I learn. 読めば読むほど、学ぶことが増えます。
  • The more you practice, the more natural your English sounds. 練習すればするほど、英語が自然に聞こえます。
  • The more time we spend together, the more relaxed she becomes. 一緒に過ごす時間が長いほど、彼女はリラックスします。
  • The more carefully you listen, the more details you notice. 注意深く聞くほど、細かい点に気づきます。
  • Do you think the more we plan, the more smoothly the trip will go? 計画すればするほど、旅はもっと順調に進むと思いますか。
  • The more I hear about it, the more I don't want to go. 話を聞けば聞くほど、行きたくなくなります。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often drop the first "the" or use normal word order.

Wrong: "More I study, more I learn." Wrong: "The more I study, I learn more."

Right: "The more I study, the more I learn."

Keep both halves in the same pattern.
